How does the Board’s exploration of college and career readiness connect with BOARS’ work?

The University of California is undertaking two separate but related efforts to better understand how students can be prepared for college, careers, and civic life.

1. BOARS’ review of UC admissions policies: As part of the University’s shared governance process, the Academic Senate’s Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools (BOARS) announced in July 2026 a review of key undergraduate admissions policies, including the possible use of standardized testing and the framework for the University's college-preparatory subject requirements, known as the A-G framework. Under UC’s system of shared governance, the Regents have delegated substantial responsibility for undergraduate admissions policy and academic requirements to the Academic Senate. The review is being led by BOARS, which includes faculty representatives from all campuses. In the coming year, BOARS will develop one or more recommendations for future consideration by the Board of Regents. 2. The Board’s exploration of college and career readiness: The Regents’ work is focused on learning more broadly about the knowledge, skills, and experiences students need to succeed in college, careers, and civic life in a changing world. Through educational discussions and stakeholder listening sessions, the Board is hearing from students, educators, employers, and other members of the public. This work will help Regents develop a deeper understanding of college and career readiness and prepare them to consider any recommendations that may emerge from BOARS’ review.
