Student Regent-designate Jordan Roiland

Jordan Roiland is the 2026–27 Student Regent-Designate. He is pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at the UCSF School of Medicine through the UC Berkeley–UCSF Joint Medical Program, where he recently earned a Master of Science in Health and Medical Sciences, with research focused on sexual violence against California youth.
Jordan grew up on Long Island and is proud to have come up through public education, believing his experiences in public institutions shaped his passion for expanding access to education for all.
Jordan’s interest in equity took shape during a high school internship where he first witnessed the influence of public policy and community organizing on health. He attended Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Biochemistry, and served on the SUNY Student Assembly as Vice Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
After college, he worked with the CDC and Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. His work focused on HPV and cervical cancer prevention on Saipan, Tinian, and Luta, which expanded his understanding of community health and how federal and local health departments work together.
At UC Berkeley, Jordan served for two-and-a-half years on the Vice Chancellor’s Student Advisory Committee and strove to represent students’ concerns from 2023–25.
As a medical student, Jordan believes the core of his medical training is relationship building, listening, trust, communication, and finding meaningful solutions that meet the needs and resources of his patients, and he plans to bring those qualities to the student regent role.
His service in academic leadership and on-the-ground work makes Jordan passionate about educational and workforce pathway programs, student mental and physical health, and ensuring that all students’ voices are heard at the institutional level. He also believes it is the responsibility of UC to educate and train a diverse body of students prepared for public service and equipped to benefit the communities of California and the world.
