Jonathan Stein is the Student Regent for 2012-13. He is a joint degree graduate student at UC Berkeley, currently earning a masters in public policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy and a J.D. from Berkeley Law. For the 2010-11 academic year, Mr. Stein served on the board of directors of the University of California Students Association and as the Legislative Director for State Affairs for UC Berkeley’s graduate student government. Mr. Stein founded and led the UC Berkeley chapter of Common Cause, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of California Common Cause. He formerly worked as a summer associate for the governance reform non-profit California Forward. Mr. Stein spent four years at Mother Jones magazine as a researcher, assistant editor, blogger, and campaign correspondent during the 2008 presidential elections. Mr. Stein co-organized and led a statewide student campaign in support of Proposition 25 on the November 2010 ballot. He is a volunteer at Berkeley Law’s Suitcase Clinic, which provides free legal services to the East Bay’s homeless community. He is a member of Berkeley Law’s Men of Color Alliance.
